February 27 Pear....the final installment............Or at least I hope it's the final installment.......
Got a text from Dan this afternoon, saying that he had to eat a pear in front of several corporals and sergeants earlier on today, and they have come to the conclusion that maybe he won't blow up like a balloon or collapse in a heap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He has been given the all clear, at last..................
All this stress for them to tell him exactly what he already knew..................
Well, it's done and dusted now, so time to move on........ February 26 An absolutely hilarious evening.......Last night, Soph, Jordan, Leah and I went to see Ross Noble at the Forum, just down the road from here. We were sooo looking forward to it.
We got there a bit early, but we couldn't wait!!!
We had pretty good seats, right down at the front..woohoo!!!
Anyway, he came on stage at 8pm, and straight away, he had people laughing.
If you have never seen Ross Noble, he is such a random bloke, and so quick witted, and he goes off on a tangent but always manages to get back to the original joke, you wonder how he manages to come up with stuff so quickly.
He always picks on audience members, and that is how he does his shows: he makes comedy out of everything!!!!!
No matter what the subject, he makes it funny. Sometimes, he is a bit close to the knuckle, but you can't help laughing,
He is a geordie lad, but he lives in Australia with his wife, and they have just lost their house and all their posessions in the major fires that have just ravaged the place, but he even managed to make that funny.........
At the interval, people left notes and bits on the stage for him, and Soph and Leah decided to leave him a note, and wrap a glow in the dark bracelet around it..........
When he comes back, he reads every note, and comments about everything that has been left, and he picked up the kids' note, and didn't read it out loud, but said, that after losing everything he owned, then a f***ing glow in the dark bracelet is just what he needed.....
He was so hilarious throughout the show, I was laughing that much, that I couldn't catch my breath, and the tears of laughter were just running down my face, my make up was everywhere....I had to get a tissue, and he picked up on this and, as he was in the middle of a story about "sperm donations and samples...", he said he wanted to know why I had a tissue out.........
It was an excellent show, we didn't get home until 11-30pm, and I would recommend to anyone that they should try and see him. He is on tour across the country, so if you get a chance, you should really make the effort to see him, you will not be disappointed, and, as he makes his shows from picking on audience members, each show is different!!!!!!!
February 23 Talking about YouTube - Parents day at Bassingbourn, February 09
This is Dan's troop marching back from the laundry. Whoever was at the front, either wasn't listening, or was too distracted by everyone watching, and when they were supposed to turn left, they carried on straight ahead!!! They soon snaked round to where they were supposed to be. Dan is 5th from the left, when they all get lined up. At the end, they are told that they have one minute to go and get changed if they want to go out for the day with their family, and they just run off in all directions, trying to get upstairs and ready!!!!! Talking about YouTube - Parents day at Bassingbourn, February 09 February 22 Why, oh why, oh...............Why is it that whenever I need to go somewhere, it NEVER goes smoothly??????
Hope you are sitting comfortably, this is going to be a LONG story...............
Ok, so Friday morning, I phone the barracks from work, just to make sure that the family visit is still on for Saturday, because if it wasn't, I only had until midday Friday to cancel my room without losing any money.
Yes, it's still on, YEY!!!
Dan's Captain wasn't available, so I asked the Corporal if there was any more news on the "you-know-what"!! He said, that he thinks that it has been quietly forgotton, as no-one has heard anything since the petition to over-turn the decision was made. He was confident that Dan had nothing to worry about, he even said that another lad had been issued discharge papers for a nut allergy, even though this young man had never eaten a nut in his life!!! He said that there is probably some idiot sat in an office, just randomly selecting lads!!!!
So, for the time being, I am just putting it to the back of my mind.
Right, feeling excited, as the visit is on..........I'm going to see my baby.....
I wanted to be away by 430-5pm, and, hopefully, be at the hotel by 9-10pm at the latest.
Everything sorted, we are actually setting off at 430......bang on time......must have forgotton something, we are never THIS organised.....
Everything packed that should be packed......yep!
Petrol in the car....yep!
Water, oil, tyres checked....yep!
Sat-Nav....yep!
Kids....yep!
Money, hand-bag, ME....yep!
Ok, maybe we are organised................off we go,
Roads are not too bad, considering it's a Friday afternoon....... Until we get onto the A1....traffic was crawling!!!
It took 25 minutes to go just 2 miles...........
There are MOTO services where we were stuck, so we pull in have a break, needed the loo anyway. It was only 530, so we hadn't really got very far, but my car over-heats if its stuck in really bad traffic, so it was best to wait til the traffic was moving a bit quicker.
Had me eyes ripped out when I bought 3 tiny burgers and 3 drinks.....£16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, 630, the traffic seems to be moving now, so we set back off.
Just get going, and the Sat-Nav was beeping at me, saying it needed plugging in!!!
It was plugged in!
Pulled into the next petrol station to investigate.....the sodding cigarette lighter wasn't working!!!!!!! So even though the Sat-Nav was plugged in, there was no power!!!!
F***ing, b****cks!!!!!!!
A bit panicky, as it was pitch black, pouring with rain, had no idea where I was or where I was going!!!!!!!!
Got the road atlas out, but my head was in such a state, that I couldn't make sense of any of the roads...........
Rang my brother-in-law, asked him to do a route finder on the PC, then ring me back with directions. He told me I was stoopid for not checking the cigarette lighter, but, really, it's not something that you think about when doing all the usual checks before setting off on a long journey!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, he rang back 10 minutes later, said I just needed to stay on the A1 south, until I get to A14 to Cambridge, then off at junction 33.
Seemed simple enough,
At Peterborough services, I decide that I should really top up with petrol, just in case. I had just under half a tank, which would have been more than enough if I knew exactly where I was going, but didn't want to take any chances.
The A1 seems like the longest road in the world when its dark, it was never ending!!!!
And the amount of roadworks is unbelievable!!!!!!!!
Got onto the A14 no probs, just going past junction 31, then brother-in-law rings back. Soph takes the call.
Junction 33 will be too far!!!!!!! WTF!!!!
I'm nearly there, where do I need to be!???????
Just passing junction 32, he said that the Travelodge should be just on the A14 as we are passing.
NO!!!!!!!!!!
Went off at J33, he was desperately trying to give Soph instructions over the phone, I was passed myself, in a major panic!!!!!
Round and round and f***ing round we were going.................
He said that we shouldn't be too far, so I go into a garage and ask directions.
This bloke sent us back up the A14, where we had just came from!!!!!!!!!!!!! Said I needed A14/M11 London, then head for Cambridge services.
By this time, my head was in such a state that I missed the turning..........ended up on a pitch black motorway, no idea of where I was....just soooooo glad that I decided to top up with petrol.
Managed to get turned around, and headed back to where I was supposed to be in the first place!!
Heading towards Cambridge services, nearly got wiped out TWICE by lorries!!!! F***ing sh*t-heads!!!!!!!
Still no sign of the bloody Travelodge!!!!!
I go and ask for directions, AGAIN!!!!!!
Apparantly, we are only one minute away!!!!!!!
I needed to be at the Little Chef, next door to where they hand wash cars, and the Travelodge is behind there.....
We had drove past that 3 times, but it was in total darkness, and the hotel is set that far back away from the road, that I didn't see it!!!!!!!!!
11pm we eventually got into our room!!!!!!
I did say to the chap on reception how difficult it is to find, and he said he knows, he has been meaning to do something about the sign for ages!!!!!!!!!!!
Would have said a few choice words, but was in desparate need of some rest!!!!!
Ok, I had that much caffiene and Pro-plus inside me, and I was that worked up, I couldn't settle properly, but managed a couple of hours.
Next task. Trying to find my way from the Travelodge to the barracks!!!!!!
Went down to reception, asked the young lady to show me exactly where we were on the map, and the quickest way to the barracks. She said it should only take 20 mins......
It looked completely different in daylight, I could actually see the roads!!!!!!!!
Anyway, after only one little wrong turn, we got there in half an hour.
At last, I'm going to get to see my baby!!!!!!!!!!
We were shown up to Dan's dormitory, and there he was.....standing to attention, looking as gorgeous as ever in his uniform!!!
I just grabbed him and kissed the face off him...he was supposed to give me his name, rank and number, and recite something, but I was too impatient.....
After he showed us his locker and everything, we were having a chat, and his Captain came through, who looked nothing at all like he sounded on the phone!!!!! He is only a 26yr old whipper-snapper!!!!!!!
He's barely out of short trousers, and he's a Captain!!!!
He seems like a decent chap, and had a bit of a chat. Think he was trying to cover himself by saying that the "pear" incident is still ongoing, but they were doing all they could to keep Dan there. He knows that Dan has eaten a pear, but he said he can't be seen to know or take any responsibility, but I said I will take full responsibility, as I know that a pear won't hurt him.
11am, the lad's had to get their stuff to laundry, so they were all running around like blue-ar*ed flies, as they have to line up and stand to attention outside as quickly as possible.
I was that excited to see Dan, that I forgot to get pics of me and the kids with him, in his uniform...........
We all went outside, to watch them march off to the laundry and back again, and the lads at the front either weren't listening or were too distracted by everyone watching, that they made a mistake, which I managed to video........
I will upload that later........
Anyway, they were being allowed out for the day, so we just went to Cambridge, and had a walk around, then went for some lunch, which set me back £60!!!!!!!!!! FFS.........
Cambridge was packed, and we didn't really know where we were going, so by about 4pm, Dan said that he didn't mind going back to barracks, even though he was allowed out until 745pm, and he knew that we had a long drive home.
So I got him back by 530, and, hopefully, he will be home on weekend leave in two weeks. So, can't wait.
Just needed to get my bearings, and check on the map for the quickest way back to the A1, northbound, and we got going.
Got onto the A1 at 610pm, and headed home.
About 2 hours into the journey, needed to stop for a cuppa, I was struggling to keep my eyes open!!!!!
Refreshed and ready to go, lets get home!!!!!!!!!!
The best sign post in the whole wide world, was the one that said, Teesside, A19!!!!!
Yey!!!!! We are on the home stretch now....we will be home in half an hour!!!!!!
Got home just after 10pm, and went straight to bed!!!!!!!!!!!
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........................
February 16 Teenager...Arghh......How old do I feel???
My little baby girl is 13 today...Oh no!!!! Another teenager.........
Normally, the build up to birthday's consists of which cake Mum is required to create, and what fun activities are to be enjoyed.......but, being a teenager now, Leah didn't ask me to do a cake, noooo, she asked Soph to make her a cheesecake instead!!!!
Nor did she require any fun activities....she had decided that she wanted to go to the cinema with 3 of her friends, without me...
I'm redundant........
Well, not quite, as they required a lift in Mum's taxi to the cinema, and home again..
Anyway, she had fun, being all grown up, and going to the cinema with her mates and being all girly and stuff, and tomorrow, she wants to go shopping, as she just asked for money from people, so she needs Mum and Big Sis to accompany her around the shops, so really looking forward to a day with my girls, before going back to work Wednesday.
February 12 Cancelled weekend........We were supposed to be going to see Dan this weekend.
I booked a hotel, and borrowed a sat nav, and psyched myself up for the long journey, but, a chance phonecall to Dan's Captain, to check if there was any more news on the "pear"...(there isn't....
A blessing, maybe, as we had unexpected blizzards today, and the roads are treacherous!!
And, I had to have a small procedure done at hospital today, which is now very sore, and I think all that driving may have irritated it some, so, probably best that the weekend has been cancelled.
Was really looking forward to seeing Dan, though, and, hopefully, it will go ahead next week.
The kids had fun in the snow, and wanted me to go and have a snowball fight, but, as advised by the hospital, I am not allowed any form of excercise or heavy lifting for the next 24 hours!!!! (that was my excuse, anyway.....
February 06 "Pear" update.............This farce of a situation is yet to be resolved!!!
I originally thought that it was the S.M.O. that had issued the discharge papers, but it isn't, he is actually fighting Dan's corner. It was the Occupational Medic that has decided that Dan should be discharged, and, apparantly, he is not backing down. So the S.M.O. has requested specialist advice, and they are now waiting on a consultant, who will not be around until sometime next week!!!
I have stressed to Dan's Captain, that this "allergy" was an assumption at the time, and that it was never confirmed or denied that the pear was the definate thing that caused this reaction when Dan was 5, it was just a process of elimination that lead to that conclusion, as the pear was the only thing different that Dan had at that time.
I just hope and pray that they at least test him before sending him home.
He is so gutted, he is doing really well, and passing all the little tests and inspections with flying colours.
We are due to go and visit him at his barracks next weekend, as its a family day, and as its such a long way, I need to find a B&B for me and my girls, and drive down on the Friday night, and we have to be at barracks by 930-10am Saturday.
We are really looking forward to it, but I have a horrible feeling that they are going to send him home with me.
I never thought for one moment that such an assumption would ever cause so much trouble, and, as it has been me that has told Dan that he is allergic to pears all this time, I am carrying so much guilt that I am the cause of so much pain and uncertainty for my son. I almost destroyed his life once before, and it looks like I'm doing it again!!!
February 02 Still unbelievable...............Had a text from Dan, he now has to go to an appeal to try and overturn the Senior Medical Officers decision to medically discharge him for his bloody pear allergy!!!!!!!!!
His troop Captain has rang me this evening, and he has said that they are all shocked that it has come to this, and that they are fully behind Dan, and they will do whatever they can to keep him there.
Apparantly, the S.M.O. hasn't done any form of allergy test, he has just decided that the allergy is there and that if Dan were to eat a pear, he may have no reaction, but if he has a pear at another time, then it may have fatal consequences!!!!!!!!!!! And it is this "theory" that he has based his decision to discharge Dan.................
I have suggested to the Captain, to just give Dan a pear, and moniter him, but he says that the S.M.O. probably would not allow this, in case of an adverse reaction.
He has, however, requested a skin test, which, if denied, I will DEMAND that one is done, to ensure that my son is being discharged for the right reason!!!!!!
Now, looking on 'tinternet at pear allergies, one site has said that the allergy is connected to the Birch pollen, which is what sets off Dans hayfever........and it also says that cooked pears don't trigger off a reaction, which explains why Dan can eat tinned pears.
If Dan gets sent home for this, I will not let it lie: I will fight the whole of the British Army if I have to!
They cry out for youngsters to join up, and now they want to kick Dan out for something trivial..............................
I am so stressed with all this carry on, my heads in bits!!!
I'm hoping to hear something back within the next couple of days........................... |
