April 26 Soph's party....Saturday morning........party day!!!!!!
I have sunburn blisters from hell: on my chest, tops of my arms, and shins, ( I was wearing leggings at the time, so only the bottom bit of my shins and ankles were showing!), so every movement is painful, but don't have time to dwell, there is soooo much to do!!
First thing, had to get Leah to school for 830am, as she was going on a school trip....
Then it was off to Iceland to buy party food......
Spent the day cooking and preparing, and eventually finished all the food by 3pm.
Blister's getting bigger and more painful, and for some reason, my feet and ankles decided to blow up like balloons!!!! My feet haven't done that since I was heavily pregnant all those years ago!!!!!! Had a quick sit down before going to pick Leah back up at 445pm.
Because of the sunburn, I had to wear "comfortable" clothes, so I didn't really feel like I was going to a party, and I was driving, so wouldn't be drinking either, but, hey-ho, I am sure I will make up for it some other time!!
Anyway, my girl's looked absolutely gorgeous, as ever!
We arrived at the venue just before 7pm, so that we could get all the food table set up, and put balloons and table confetti out, and Soph decided that she wanted to do party bags for every one, so she sorted those!!
By 750pm, only about 20 people were there, and I must admit, that I was feeling a bit nervous for Soph, thinking that no-one would turn up for her party........
But by 830, the place was packed!!!!
My sister and brother-in-law even managed to get there with the kids, and the baby just slept all the time she was there!!
Dad couldn't go, as he is not well enough.
Sophie was a tad "tipsy" to say the least, LOL.
She got loads of cards, money and alcohol, so the pile of things that had accumulated around me, was just getting bigger!!
She made a little thank you speech, then everyone had something to eat, and I was worried that there would be too much food and lots of waste, but it looked like a swarm of locusts had just swept through,
Soph and her mates were going on into town afterwards, so I ordered them a mini-bus for 11pm, then set about tidying up, before packing everything back into my car, and dropping Dan and his girlfriend off before eventually getting home and crashing into bed.
It was a huge success, and Soph came rolling in at 320am.....LOL
My blisters are bigger this morning, and Im suffering more than I would if I had a hangover!!!!!!
Still, it's my own fault for being too excited at seeing my son, to think about suncream!!!!!!!!
April 24 Passing out parade........Well, as you know, Dan's pass out day has arrived already....seem's like only last week that I was blubbing my eyes out, waving him off to his new life!!!!
We travelled down yesterday, and I booked us into a different Travelodge this time, the one that I tried to get when we went down before, as it was closer to barracks, and a few quid cheaper...
Anyway, I was that confident that I could get us there, that I didn't take the SatNav............
I just had my road atlas, and Soph to keep checking it, to make sure we were on track.....and, guess what?????????
I got us straight there, without any "de-tours", weyhey!!!!!!!
I am such a smart-ar*e at times!!!!
Later on in the evening, we did a dummy run to the barracks, to check how long it would take to get there, and it only took 20 minutes, so we were not too far away,
Thought we better get an early(ish) night, as we had a long day ahead.........
We were rudely woken up by the sounds of a Cockerel crowing!!!!!!!!
5am, none stop crowing.......................
FFS, somebody shoot the f***ing thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No, he didn't go away, so we were a tad tired, to say the least!
As we were getting dressed, I opened the window, as it was very stuffy, and the bloody Cock was at it again...(Oooer....
So to shut him up, I was chucking Rich Tea biscuits for him to eat, it did the trick, LOL.
We got to the barracks by 830am, and sat and waited for the gates to open.....
In we all go, get parked up, and head off to the parade square, to find a seat. As we were nice and early, we managed to get right at the front,
Only problem was, we had a 2 hour wait for the parade to start, and it was getting VERY hot!!!!!!!
1130am, and the band started to march on, followed by the young soldiers..........
OMG!!! They all looked so smart, and I started filling up even before I spotted Dan...
He was on the front row of his troop, so we could see him...
He was nominated for a prize, for Best Recruit, but he was just pipped by one of the other lads........
But, as I said to Dan, he is a winner for just managing to complete his training.........
He dosen't know what happened about his badge designs, either, as he handed them in, but nothing more has been said.......never mind!!
Anyway, the parade went really well, and I was so very proud of Dan.....
We were burning a bit, in the sun, as it was really hot..........
After the parade, we met up with Dan, and had a chat and something to eat, before he went to get all his stuff, ready for home.....
He is going to Borden, for phase 2, on 11th May, so he will be home for a couple of weeks.
We got home by 730pm, all shattered, and burnt to a frazzle with the worst sunburn.....OUCH!!!!!!!
Tomorrow I will be suffering with it, but I have sh*t-loads to do for Soph's party tomorrow night, so will have to just grin and bear it!!!!!
April 21 Happy Birthday.............to Sophie!!!
She is 18 today, can't believe it, she's all grown up!!!!!!
She is off out tonight, to Carnage, a themed student night, and she is buzzing that it fell on her birthday, as she can LEGALLY go now,
She is having a party on Saturday night, so she is looking forward to that too.
We are off to Hertfordshire on Thursday, as Dan's passing out parade is on Friday, so that's something else we are looking forward to....
As you can imagine, by Sunday, we are all going to be absolutely shattered, as it's none stop for the next couple of days!!!!
It's all good, though, April 19 Latest addition to the family........On Wednesday, my sister, Jo, went into hospital to have her baby induced.
She wasn't actually due until 29th April, but as she has gestational diabetes and her blood pressure was a bit high, they decided to bring the baby early. The same thing happened when she had Grace, 18 months ago, so she knew what to expect.
Or so she thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jo was given her first pessary at about 4-5pm, on Wednesday, to get things going, by 11pm, not much was happening, so they gave her another. Although there were a few little contractions, nothing significant happened.....I was sat waiting for the phone to ring......getting a bit restless....what was taking her so long????????
At 10.45am, Thursday, my brother-in-law, Paul, rang me at work, to say that a doctor had just been, and said Jo needed at least 24 hours of rest before he would allow another pessary!!!!!!!!!! If nothing happens, then she will be given another at 9am Friday morning..... As you can imagine, everyone was on tenterhooks, waiting for some "movement"!!
Heard nothing all day Friday...................
By the evening, Paul rang to say that they didn't manage to give Jo the pessary until 2pm, and things seemed to be moving..............
I was getting more and more edgy, threatening to go in and drag the baby out myself, if nothing happened soon,
5.25am, Saturday, my phone rings, and I jump out of bed that quick that when I tried to get my phone, I dropped it, so I was scrambling around on the floor, in the dark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its Paul, "please tell me that we have a baby"...............
"Yes, she arrived at 4.55am....."
Yey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At long bloody last!!!!
Isobelle Rose Norman weighed in at a whopping 8lbs 14oz!!!!!!!!!
She had everything that she should have had, she was fine, but a little blue, as the cord was wrapped around her neck, but no lasting damage,
My poor sister said she felt like she had done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson!!!!!!!!!! She was fine, just exhausted.
So everybody is fine and home, and I have been to give my new niece a lovely cuddle, and changed her nappy, and the little tyke christened me with a wee-wee!!!!!!!!!!
She is soooo gorgeous!!!!
Isobelle, aged 10 minutes
Check out the double-chin!!!!!!!
April 08 A lovely day out........With the kids being on holiday, and today being my day off, we decided to have a day out to Knaresborough and Old Mother Shipton's Cave, for a nice change, as we usually stay local when wanting a little trip out.
It's only about 45 minutes away, but we have never been, so we took the opportunity.
The weather was a bit iffy, but at least it wasn't raining, just very windy, but bearable.
We got there with no problems, as it is so well sign posted, so no unexpected "de-tours",
When we got into Mother Shiptons park, the weather was gorgeous, as it is in a valley, so shielded from the wind, and I can imagine it being a sun trap in the summer, it was lovely.
The scenery was stunning, and we had a lovely walk along the river to Mother Shipton's cave and Petrifying Well. Along the way, Leah had a question sheet and she had to find the answer's as we walked along, so it was fun working them out.
There were lots of step's, so, unforunately, it is not a place for Mum's with pushchairs or anyone in a wheelchair, but, by the time we had finished, I needed a wheelchair, I was blooming knackered!!!!
The Petrifying well is amazing, the minerals that are in the water turn things to stone! There were lots of things hanging up, like teddy bears, hats, and even a pair of pants!!!!! They had all been turned to stone!
Many famous people had visited and left things, there was even a hat that belonged to John Wayne in the museum,(he hadn't visited in person, but had sent it over, back in the day).
Just behind the Petrifying Well, is the Magical Wishing well, and you had to follow the rules to make your wish for it to come true.
Rule number one: You cannot wish for money.
Rule number two: You cannot wish any harm to anyone.
Rule number three: You must dip your right hand into the water when making your wish, and allow it to dry naturally.
Rule number four: You must not reveal your wish to anyone, until it has come true.
So we each go and make our wish,
Then we went into the cave itself, and, right at the back, is a dark, haggered statue of Mother Shipton, which is quite scary looking, and the kids reluctantly stood next to for a photo!!!!
We then walked onto the museum, where Leah handed in her completed question sheet, and got a bar of chocolate for correctly answering all the questions, before having a walk around Knaresborough, which is VERY hilly!!!! The people living there must be fit to have to walk those streets every day!!!!!
We stopped off for some lunch, before having another wander, then headed off home.
We were shattered from all that fresh air and walking, but we had a fab day,
Here is the link to the site, if you want to check it out.
April 03 3 weeks to go............It is only 3 weeks today until Dan has his passing out parade!!!!
Can't believe how quickly it has come round, after all the shenanigans with the dreaded pear, and all the uncertainty,he has just gone from strength to strength.
He has earned his REME cap badge, which he wears with pride,
He was given his promotion to junior corporal on Monday, and has earned his first stripe,
And he has just completed the 4 tee-shirt badge designs which will be ready for the passing out day.......
This years pass out is going to be one of the biggest ones, as there are 120 young soldiers passing out, so there will be 120 family and friends arriving on the day, and there is no limit to how many people that they can invite, so you can imagine how many people are going to be there!!!
Dan text me to tell me to make sure I get there early enough,
I have put holidays in at work, and Leah has had 2 days off authorised by the headmaster, and Soph is off college anyway, so we will be travelling down during the day, on the Thursday, to allow for any "detours"......
Not sure if my sister will be able to go, as she is due to have her baby induced next week, so really don't think she will be wanting to travel all that way with a new baby, and her other 3 kids.....but if there are no complications, then my brother in law will be coming with the 3 kids, leaving Jo at home with the baby. I don't think my Dad will be well enough to go, either, he is having a lot of health problems at the minute, so isn't really well enough.
There will be a DVD of the parade, and I will be ordering a copy, so at least they will get to see it, even if they cannot go.
I will be stocking up on the tissues, as I know I will be VERY emotional watching my little boy on parade, and he is also receiving an individual recognition for something, not sure what, but I will find out when I get there.......
It will be a manic couple of days;
We will be travelling down on the Thursday, passing out parade and driving home, (with Dan..
PLUS Leah is on a school trip on that Saturday, to Flamingoland, so will need to have her at school for 845am, and she is due back approximately 5pm, then a mad rush to get her home, bathed and dressed for the party, and all of us over to the venue by 7pm!!!!
Think the Sunday will be spent in bed all day, recovering!!!!!!!!!!! |
